Tenth day

On the tenth day of Christmas I gave to me:

video

Ten muddy fingers
Nine maddening mugs
Eight wall pockets
Seven sexy bags
Six perfect pears
Five rae dunn rocks
Four birds a flying
Three gorgeous vases
Two Isnik tiles
and
A bowl with a peeee!

Ninth Day

On the ninth day of Christmas I made quite hastily;

Nine maddening mugs*
Eight wall pockets
Seven sexy bags
Six perfect pears
Five rae dunn rocks
Four birds a flying
Three gorgeous vases
Two Isnick tiles
and
a bowl with a peeee!

*Maddening because I attached the wetter tops to the dryer bottoms. Out of 13 original cups only 4 didn't have cracks. I tried to fix them with paper clay...the "solution" took as long as throwing new cups and the cracks remained. This is the perfect lesson in (a) making sure my pieces are the same amount of dryness and (b) when it looks bad to begin with it's going to be bad all the way through. I should ALWAYS toss those suckers and start over before I spend hours fixing, firing and glazing. This is one of my 2008 New Years resolutions.

Burning Bush

On Friday, hauling in cases of wine for the fourth & clay opening party, my rather large rear end bumped the pedestal that John's beautiful menorah "Burning Bush" was displayed upon. I felt it rock, I heard the gentle kur klunk, kur klunk and then it toppled off it's perch and hit the floor. I was devastated, John was devastated and needless to say the piece was devastated. Sometimes I move thoughtlessly through space...this was one of those times . Most of the time I am accused of just being oblivious but this time was a big lesson for me on impermanence, carelessness, sadness and forgiveness on the part of my loving husband . RIP beautiful"Burning Bush".
