I hate consignment. Remember this summer when I was elated to have gotten my work into Gumps? Then when it SOLD OUT I got a HUGE (for me) re-order? Well guess what...for some reason most of this labor intensive, beautiful custom work didn't sell. And guess what again...yesterday I drove over to Gumps to pick up my work and bring it back to my studio. The good thing is that the Holidays are upon us and I now have a wonderful variety of work to sell. I can say that I am disappointed and a bit discouraged with my attempt at consignment sales. I learned a great lesson though, that is I should have quit when I was ahead. Sold out at Gumps, head held high instead of making more work and limping back across the bridge with 2 big boxes of the unsold inventory. Anybody want to buy a bowl?
AND while I'm in the mood to complain...My vase was included in the beautiful, new 500 Vases by Lark Publication. It looks fabulous...full page (pg 282), standing proudly HOWEVER the name credited to the piece ISN'T MINE. They screwed up, it will be corrected in next printing.
So how was your week ???

Cheer up Josie, quitting while you're ahead is for the poker table, next time tell them they have to buy straight out if they like you so much. And at least you sold out, I sold exactly ONE THING for $44 at that show!
I think you have earned a little whine time. That's some crappy stuff.
I just ordered the 500 Vases. As soon as I get it I'm going to correct the credits on your vase.
Cindy
Not so bad, at least the first round sold out and like you said now you have additional inventory for the holidays. As for the mis labeled piece in 500 Vases, I find THAT completely unacceptable, rude and unprofessional. You make a beautiful piece that they include in their book and they can't get the attribution right? Naive question, do they pay well for the use of your work?
No payment for work in the book - just the glory of seeing your work in print.
I want to buy a couple of your bowls! I think Gumps made a buyer error. They wold be perfect for for fall and the holidays. Let me know the price, please.
And regarding the error in the book...send me a copy of the photo and the CORRECT info and I will do a post on it. It's a small way to get the right info out there...
Your work is terrific!
Thanks everybody for your support.
Jane, I have emailed you the info.
Your vase is really beautiful. It reminds me of some of the work I've seen from the Bloomsbury Group in England around the 1910-20. What a bummer about the attribution. I've blogged it so at least your work is being seen more widely!
I knew your vase right away and I am sure your work will sell elsewhere... DEFINITELY annoying though...
I WAS REJECTED from that book... and I BOUGHT IT ANYWAY.
Good idea to get the word around about the mistaken label. I'll add you to my blog too.
Oh, Josie... That is such a bummer to have made all that effort for what seems, at this point, for nothing. But cheer up, your work will sell. It's so lovely. In fact I may be in need of a mug very soon for my collection. As for the Lark thing- that would make me absolutely boil over. I don't even know what I would do. Like Mesnic said, completely unprofessional. They ought to compensate you somehow.
Thanks Shannon, Anna, Jessie and Judi.
Shanon being on your blog is such an honor. I am a big fan of your work and blog.
Anna I couldn't access your blog...could you send me a link?
Judi, it makes me feel great that despite the credit you recognized my work.
Jessie, hopefully this edition of the book will sell quickly and the corrected one will be published soon. fourth & clay is having a big holiday party on Dec 9....hope you join us.
Beautiful vase! Sorry they credited the wrong artist.
I am looking forward to your holiday party.
